With a view to the paradoxical figure of the showgirl, the duo Rykena/Jüngst deal with the forms of female, as well as male or queerer, eroticism and entertainment in their new production Rose La Rose. On the stages of entertainment culture, showgirls are still today, in the midst of male-dominated marketing strategies, a patriarchal phantasm and a projection screen of vicious sensuality. From a queer-feminist and critical perspective, the sighted and non-sighted performers in Rose La Rose question view hierarchies and deconstruct clichéd notions of erotic bodies. In an evening at the theatre, located between stage play and entertainment show, the performers, together with a drummer, acquire show strategies, dissect them and search for the subversive potentials of the show world. Understanding the voyeuristic gaze as a productive tool, they find hybrid forms of eroticism that detach themselves from a male-dominated desire.

The music for this project will be developed by the three multi-instrumentalists Maximilian Hirning, Lukas Bamesreiter and Lena Geue in close collaboration with the dancers during the entire rehearsal process. As

Jünst/ Rykena will grant the audience access to this dance piece with a rehearsal visit, during which the two choreographers and their artistic team will present the piece and the working process and invite the visitors to move and exchange ideas together. Together, choreographic, dancing and vocal ideas and concepts from the piece will be tested and an experimental, amateurish and joyful approach will be found. The introduction to movement is suitable for all interested people, for curious professionals as well as for laymen and for bodies of any condition.

At the Artist Talk after the performance at HochX, visitors can talk to the artistic team about ideas, content, the rehearsal process and the play.
