The Long Night of the Bairische Geisha is a theatre marathon for three generations of artists. The Bairishe Geisha, performance collective and urban mythical figure, turns 20 years old. This is a reason to ask: what remains of your own work and what can be removed? Judith Huber and Eva Löbau provide three special groups – the training year of Freie Bühne München, students of theatre studies at the LMU and the PATHOS Jugendclub – with three of their most successful plays. Through the reworking, the plays can and should change and be transported into the present. But: who knows how Die Bairishe Geisha will cope with giving their own work out of their hands. In a fourth, new piece, she will therefore ask herself the question, how should one age as an artist? She will visit artists of her parents’ generation to learn from their working biography and, together with the Munich-based artist Sabeth Wallenborn-Honigmann, will develop a performance about continuing, persevering, giving up, giving up, retreating, setting out, saying goodbye. The whole marathon event is an invitation to the 3 age groups to learn from each other without unsolicited teachings. The Long Night of the Bairische Geisha is a dream of solidarity beyond age limits.
The Long Night of the Bairische Geisha is expected to premiere in June 2021. In cooperation with the mediation series Schau Mer Mal, Bairishe Geisha offers a chance to look behind the scenes. This gives the audience an insight into the processes of all four plays and provides background information on the longstanding work of the Bairishe Geisha. Due to the planning difficulties caused by Covid-19, more exact dates cannot be announced yet.
