space – time – motion: scenography workshop (2 days)

#TOBESTAGEDESIGNING

Space plays a central role in a performance. The relationship between spectators and performers is already the first important setting. The use of the manifold possibilities and combination of material (stage constructions, props) and immaterial (light, projections, fog) is another artistic setting. Visual and performing arts are combined. Practical exercises are used to teach the creation of a space for a text, theme or performance. Model building as a central working tool of the creative design process and communication will be introduced. Aspects of teamwork with scenographers will be explained and discussed. The special situation of independent productions, their specific requirements and individual questions will be addressed.

Georg Burger studied scenography at the HfG Karlsruhe with a minor in art history and painting. He has worked as a scenographer, stage and costume designer for over twenty years at theaters such as the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus, Schauspiel Leipzig and the Staatstheater Karlsruhe. From 2005 to 2009 he taught scenography at the HfG Karlsruhe. He is regularly active as a lecturer for workshops or advanced training courses.
